For Families
WHO WE WORK WITH
At Embodied Stories, we work with families of all shapes and sizes, trauma or no trauma. Our goal is to meet you where you are at and work toward the same goal together: thriving families.
One of our passions is educating families that are just starting out and wanting to learn best practices for connecting with, empowering, and disciplining their children. Whether you have children yet or not, it’s never too early to start thinking about the care you want to provide them. And in a day and age where there is so much conflicting information on how to parent, we provide evidence-based strategies that cut through the noise to provide clarity on what the research says matters. The model we use is rooted in child development research, so part of our work is to provide caregivers with a framework of what a healthy developmental trajectory looks like. We provide tools for balancing structure and nurture in correction, practice emotional and behavioral attunement strategies, and provide mindful awareness to foster secure attachment with your children.
We additionally specialize in working with foster and adoptive families, as well as families with children that have big, baffling, and frustrating behaviors. We typically see children that have experienced developmental trauma and provide education, resources, and support for families wanting to get out of survival mode. This developmental trauma might have been experienced prenatally through a stressful pregnancy, early on through medical interventions, or it might have looked like abuse or neglect later in childhood or adolescence. Regardless of the cause(s) of trauma, symptoms often manifest similarly, and treatment - while tailored to your unique family’s needs - typically follows the same path.
OUR approach
The evidence-based model we use is called Trust-Based Relational Intervention®. This model integrates research-based practices across the fields of neuroscience, child psychology, and attachment literature. We pull together findings from experts such as Dan Siegel, MD, Marti Smith, occupational therapist, and Tina Payne Bryson, PhD, to create an integrated approach that meets families and organizations where they are at.

One-on-One Family Coaching
$125 per hour session
Our coaching sessions start with just the caregiver(s) involved in the child or teen’s care. We develop a plan with the caregiver based on their goals in the first session, and in following sessions we will typically explore the TBRI® model together, eventually including the children and teens so that practical strategies can be practiced together. The goal is that the caregivers are equipped with understanding and strategies to create a healthy, healing environment for their children.
While we will occasionally provide family coaching to families that have not received TBRI® training, we typically recommend that families first participate in a TBRI® training. Coaching then provides a deeper dive into the materials and tailoring to your family’s specific needs. For more information on upcoming trainings, please visit our trainings page or contact us.

Testimonials
-
“My husband and I asked Sarah if she could help us better understand our three adopted grandkids. Her explanations of how TBRI® could inform us and help us know ways to love and engage with them that would help rather than hinder their development and our relationship, was and continues to be so helpful.”
