For Organizations
WHO WE WORK WITH
We work with organizations that work with children and teens in any capacity. We specialize in working with churches, schools, and nonprofits.
Churches
For churches, we often train leadership, staff, as well as child and youth volunteers. Those trained in any of the TBRI training modules (listed below) are subsequently able to spot trauma, model regulation strategies, and correct problem-behaviors in a trauma-informed way. We find that when staff, volunteers, and families are trained in trauma-informed practices, children and teens are able to feel a deeper sense of safety, stay in their learning brains rather than their survival brains, display less problematic behaviors, and actually learn and grow during time spent together.
schools
We often train teachers and staff, and can additionally host parent trainings. In school settings, we always recommend training leadership first, and then including staff and others in subsequent trainings. We have found that exposing staff to training without leaders being on board first can be harmful to culture and moral. Because the TBRI training model encourages shifts in culture through incorporating trauma-informed practices, conversations at the leadership level are encouraged to take place prior to training staff and others. When schools are trained in TBRI, we find that discipline issues diminish over time because students have tools to regulate and stay in their learning brains rather than their survival brains, and can actually learn and grow during time spent together. OTHERs
We additionally work with other organizations such as adoption and foster care agencies, after-school programs, and community-based nonprofits. We tailor our materials to the organization’s specific needs, and can provide training for staff as well as clients and families served. Whether your organization wants to build capacity in your own employees, or open the training to community partners and families, we are here to help you plan a training that meets your goals.
OUR approach
The evidence-based model we use is called Trust-Based Relational Intervention®. This model integrates research-based practices across the fields of neuroscience, child psychology, and attachment literature. We pull together findings from experts such as Dan Siegel, MD, Marti Smith, occupational therapist, and Tina Payne Bryson, PhD, to create an integrated approach that meets families and organizations where they are at.
